Cyberlink PowerProducer 5 is designed especially for you, and anyone who wants to use their DV/HDV camcorders to create their own movies on disc. PowerProducer covers most of the things the average user will want to do with DVD creation. CyberLink Community Forum where the experts meet Advanced Search. CyberLink PowerProducer is a program designed for creation and final design of multimedia products on HD discs, including Blu-ray discs and DVDs in AVCHD format. The program has special tools for adding music to video clips, importing photos for creating slideshows.

Are you in the market for a powerful movie producer with full support for video capture with a swath of useful features? CyberLink does it again with their PowerProducer product and it doesn't let down.

PowerProducer is an offspring of their powerful PowerDirector and contains many, but not all of the features you find in that program. While it can't yet produce 3D movies, we think the whole 3D think is a fad anyways.

PowerProducer comes with a load of cool video effects, transitions and filters. With this program, you modify your video brightness, contrast and hue. With the proper hardware, you can also grab some of your old betamax and vhs home movies and transfer them to your computer with PowerProducer. CyberLink's program also supports capture from AVCHD, camcorder and anything that connects to your capture card.

Exporting files from this program also shouldn't be overlooked. While their importing options are quite rich, you can also turn your movies into web formats like FLV for viewing with Flash or by uploading them to YouTube. Also supported is the burning of movies to DVD and if you have the correct burner, burning it to a Blu-ray disc.

After you're finished editing your movies, the easy disc burning feature is only a click away. You're also free to use one of the few DVD menu templates included with this application.

Though this CyberLink product doesn't contain all of the very advanced features you'd find in more expensive software, it does a good job of handling the basic video editing and video capturing functions.

Packed with a lot of tools, this application enables you to easily create and edit video files, save them to the hard drive or burn them to CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays

CyberLink PowerProducer is a reliable software solution that enables you to process VCD, DVD, Blu-ray, AVCREC and AVCHD media before burning it to disc.

Clean interface and creating a movie disc

The user interface of the program is attractive and intuitive. In the main window, you can select to produce a movie disc, Right-to-Disc (transfer video directly to DVD or BD), edit a disc, open an existing project, or access additional utilities.

When you want to create a movie disc, you basically have to capture, import and edit content. You are required to select the video format type you want to produce (CD, DVD, Blu-ray, AVCHD, AVCREC), the specific recording format (e.g. VCD, SVCD, BDAV, BDMV), disc capacity and playback aspect ratio.

Import items, save your project or burn it to a disc

In the next step, you can import video files, photos or scenes on a disc, capture video from an external device (i.e. webcam), edit video clips, make a commercial cut, create an image slideshow, customize the menu, set chapters, preview video and edit text on video (e.g. title, play, scenes).

Once you have finished your masterpiece, you can either save the project so that you can work on it further, or you can burn video to disc.

Performance and conclusion

The program froze every time we entered the menu customization stage. It also takes several seconds to load each main function of CyberLink PowerProducer and it uses a high amount of system memory.

Otherwise, the application comes in a nice package regarding video processing and burning options (although the editing options are kind of light). It has a very well-drawn help file, a visually appealing user interface, and it is very simple to work with.
